Smart Hans

"Smart Hans" is the artificially intelligent reincarnation of Clever Hans, the "mind-reading" horse that lived at the beginning of the last century. The interactive installation shows an animated horse that uses gesture recognition to guess what number you are thinking about.

Smart Hans the final boss of all AI models. Smart Hans proves that - no matter how big and expensive your AI model is - you can never be sure which data was used to make a decision. The installation invites you to play and is also a warning against public surveillance, automated decision-making and the fundamental idea that all problems can be solved with technology.

Smart Hans is the most important German AI installation of the present day. It has been honoured with the Lab30 Main Jury Award and has already been exhibited at the Deutsches Museum, the FILE Festival in Sao Paolo and the Science Gallery Monterrey, among others.

Made in Europe: The Data Room as a Tailwind for AI & Creatives

Europe is at a turning point: While global tech giants are shaping the AI market and dominating digital public spheres, there is growing pressure to strengthen digital sovereignty, effectively protect creative content and ensure democratic diversity in the digital space. This raises the following questions: What rules do the creative industries need in the AI economy? How can copyrights be protected – and who owns the data used to train AI?

It will be discussed whether a European data space can be a realistic counter-model to platform monopolies and create fair conditions for creatives. Different perspectives from the worlds of art, business, law and politics will come together – and reveal just how complex the search for solutions is.
