Self-employed people? They either live precariously and make art for a living – or they drive to the bakery in a Porsche: A wide variety of ideas and conceptions of self-employment are circulating in politics and the public sphere. They often have little to do with reality.

The VGSD association stands up for the (solo) self-employed, start-ups and micro-enterprises in all sectors. A decisive factor for the political representation of interests: Reliable data that shows a realistic picture of self-employment. After all, political decisions should not be based on prejudices, but on facts. In her session, Katharina Mandlinger will provide insights into the work of the association – and show what the data says about the current situation in the creative industries.

After her presentation, Katharina Mandlinger will be available for questions and discussions at the Meeting Point in the West Foyer.

Film Screening: Der Unternehmer das Dorf und die Künstler

An entrepreneur and two conceptual artists are planning an unusual kind of event in Deppendorf: a publicity stunt, instrumentalisation - or the rousing power of art? The controversial idea creates meaning and community until the limits of what is reasonable are reached. The film tells the story of the art action "Fliegen retten in Deppendorf", planned and documented in 2012, in all its ambivalence, absurdity and humanity - as a found-footage story without judgement. At the same time, it shows how the action triggered a change in the company that continues to this day and the "Save instead of kill" movement.
